Next Friday at 8 pm it’s time for the next installment of Hack!Friday!
In Benchmarking Anything (Worth Benchmarking) with Perf whoami will cover the
theoretical foundation and practical know-how that you need to get to the bottom
of software bottle necks. Alongside the theoretical presentation will be a
practical demonstration.
If you have frustrations with a current FOSS project with performance issues,
you are invited to contact whoami and with any luck it could be a good fit for
the live demo.

This month we have a Hack!Friday on the first Friday for a change:
On the 5th of June 2026 (this upcoming Friday), at our usual time of 7:42 pm, we
will host another interesting lecture in our Hack!Friday series.
Severin is presenting the topic “How do you build a programming language? - for
beginners”
“We’re using the classic computer science tool ‘Robot Karol’ as a starting point
to build our own little programming language. This is designed to be used by 7th
graders, so it looks a little bit different from what you’re used to seeing in
C, Java, etc. We’ll cover lexing and parsing, tree-walking interpreters, and
maybe a little bit of type checking.”

At our hackspace we have an eclectic collection of interesting beings with
diverse backgrounds. No one can know everything. And so, in order to share
knowledge with one another, Hack!Friday was re-launched a while back.
Hack!Friday is a day (usually a Friday) where various workshops, lectures
and other knowledge exchange opportunities can take place. Although µC³ had
previously hosted Hack!Friday regularly, the series went dormant for quite
some time. But good news: since the beginning of 2026 it’s been revitalized!

The ASM26 “Alternativlose Sicherheitsmaßnahme” has come to a close. Thank you
for all the interesting workshops, talks, and conversations that we were able to
enjoy with you again this year at our Aktiv Symposium München.
From guided hacking to splicing optical fiber to a crochet workshop, we had many
great offerings. We hope that you had as much fun as we did!
A huge thank you to everyone who made the event possible and thank you as well
to those who helped with build up and tear down.

The first Sunday in April falls on Easter weekend. As in previous years, Easter
means that many of the members of our Hackspace will go to
Easter Hegg or visit their families.
Thus, it is with heavy hearts that we made the decision not to offer a Digital
Independence Day event in our space in April.
Those of you who would like to stay informed about alternatives to BigTech
in April can visit one of the other Hackspaces in the area, for example
Binary Kitchen
in Regensburg or pay a visit to the Dachau City Library.

Hackspaces are community spaces dedicated to fun, art, politics, and above all
social interaction. To experience it yourself, visit a Hackspace in your area on
the 28th of March!
You can find a list of spaces that are participating and opening their doors to
visitors like you https://md.ccc-mannheim.de/s/tdoh-spaces26
What to expect
In addition to checking out the physical space you can get to know the
community, learn about the topics they are working on, and above all you can
discover the ideas behind Hackspaces and hacking in general. Depending on the
space there will be guided tours of the rooms, presentations, workshops, and
cold drinks. But no matter which which space you visit, you will get the
opporunity to socialize and exchange ideas.

One of the most famous projects of the µC³are the camp badges. From the
eHaserl for the 2010 Easterhegg in Munich, to
the r0ckets for the 2011 camp, to the
Flow3r badges in 2023, badges have become a well known
and beloved part of Chaos Communication Camp.
To give this piece of µC³history a place of honour in our rooms, we have now
properly displayed all of our badges (as well as a few from other Chaos
events) - framed in gold, of course!

The MuCCC facilities include several basement rooms. Among them we have a
lounge, where members have cozy get togethers and also host parties (in the
basement we can turn up the bass).
Over the years the lounge has been decorated with various colorful blinky
things. Recently a large mural of an homage to the escape pod was added to one
of the walls. The painting is the work of Ammoth, Black and Flin.

The annual Chaos Communication Congreess took place in Hamburg between Christmas
and New Year’s. Once again there were many exciting talks and workshops on
diverse topics. We learned that the
implementation of GPG is insecure,
most Bluetooth headphones have major flaws
, and of course the German electronic patient records are still broken.
But, there is also good news to report. We now know
how to cook for large groups for an event
and Marc-Uwe Kling and Linus Neumann called us to participate in the
Digital Independecne Day at the end of the
live reading from Marc-Uwe Kling.
We are also participating! Take a look at our calendar for more DIDay info.

What is Digital Independence Day?
Digital Independence Day (or in German der Digitale Unabhängigkeits Tag) is a
day of action (at least) Germany wide, on which we want to take small steps to
become more independent from “Big Tech” companies like Meta (Facebook, WhatsApp
or Instagram), Google, Apple, or Amazon.
The idea for Digital Independence Day came from, among others, author and
artist Marc-Uwe Kling. He has published a YouTube short presenting the idea
(Link to the video).

A new draft bill by the federal government of Germany proposes a
“Minimum requirement for the retention of IP addresses to prevent serious crime”. This draft is problematic for many
reasons, as the proposed minimum retention is not feasible with current
technological standards and will lead to significant negative impacts on
society.
Operating free public Wi-Fi services, such as those provided by
Freifunk, is significantly
complicated, if not made impossible. Public Wi-Fi services of this kind are an
important part of digital inclusion, particularly for people without mobile data
contracts, such as socially disadvantaged groups.

Since last year the
Open Doors with the Mouse
event from WDR has also included soldering workshops, lead by Timo from the
Binary Kitchen (who also designed
the badge soldering kits), among others.
The Munich Haecksen have already hosted several soldering workshops and have a
good rapport with the Binary Kitchen, so they wanted to also participate this
year. They registered a “door” under the name “Soldering Workshop” and on the
third of October we opened our door to kids that wanted to learn to solder.

For many years, our hackspace used a page from our wiki as our homepage. Those days are finally over. We have decided to rebuild our website with a static site generator (Hugo).
The xHain website served as the basis for our changeover, but we also drew inspiration from other hackspaces.
With the new look of our website, we not only want to appear more modern, but also make it easier for new interested parties to get started. All important information about our hackspace can easily be found here. The new structure also offers more space to document our projects and events.
